What GLC Believes About The Fear Of The Lord

Walking in the fear of the Lord is key to experiencing God's full protection, provision, and blessings in life.

The fear of the Lord involves having an attitude of awe, reverence, humility, and obedience towards God. It means obeying the voice of one's conscience, which is guided by the Holy Spirit. Practicing the fear of the Lord allows one to dwell in the "secret place" of God's presence, where no evil can touch them.

King David exemplified the fear of the Lord and saw its benefits firsthand. He understood God's promises in the Old Covenant and walked by faith in them. David's confidence came from knowing he was part of God's covenant and trusting God to fulfill His word.

The fear of the Lord gives one "strong confidence" to stand on God's promises regardless of outward circumstances.

It also leads to blessings not just for oneself, but for one's children as well. Jesus Christ himself modeled the fear of the Lord by obeying the Holy Spirit completely. He said he came not to do his own will, but the will of the Father. The Holy Spirit helped Jesus grow in wisdom and understanding of the fear of the Lord. For believers, obeying the Holy Spirit involves denying oneself, taking up one's cross daily, and following Christ's example of obedience.

Walking in the fear of the Lord through obedience allows one to dwell in God's protection and receive all that He has already freely provided.
