What GLC Believes About Discipleship
Forget the Past and Reach for the Future
Many Christians struggle to forget past mistakes and struggles that hold them back from reaching their full potential in Christ. We must let go of past failures and difficulties to pursue the goals God has planned. Forget what lies behind and press on toward what is ahead. Only by leaving the past behind can believers step into the abundant futures God desires for them.
A key to maturing in Christ is discovering one's "high calling" in God, the believer's highest purpose as growing into the image of Jesus Christ himself. To fulfill this call, Christians must determine God's unique plan and abilities for their lives. Seeking this high calling leads to balance, satisfaction and realizing our purpose is the only way to find true meaning... living according to our roles in God's kingdom.
Spiritual Nourishment and Maturity.
We must challenge ourselves to regularly feed our inner beings with Scripture just as we sustain our physical bodies. Only through daily time in God's Word can we progress from spiritual infancy to adulthood. Maturing in faith also requires humility, being teachable and not easily offended. The fivefold ministry gifts of apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor and teacher are the resources for equipping God's people. Journey with us as we grow into Christ's fullness. Through applying biblical truths, we fulfill our destinies and shine God's glory from within. By forgetting past failures, seeking our highest callings and prioritizing spiritual nourishment, we will experience abundant and purposeful lives in Christ.
